Srivilliputhur is a municipality within the Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu. The place is known for palkova, a candy made from milk and sugar. The dish earned a Geographical Indication tag in 2019.

The story of palkova began round 1921. Dev Singh, a Rajput, arrange a candy stall named Lala Sweets close to the famed Andal temple.

He began making palkova after seeing the copious manufacturing of milk and the ‘prasadam’ within the temple made from milk, sugar and assorted nuts. Now it has been renamed as Sri Venkateswara Vilas.

Every day 2,000 liters of milk is procured and half-a-tonne of palkova is made at this store.
