Three individuals had been lacking after a firefighting helicopter carrying 4 on board crashed into the ocean off Greece Wednesday, the coastguard and firefighting service stated.

“One person had been saved and a rescue operation is underway to find the three other members of the crew,” a coastguard official instructed AFP.

A fireplace brigade official stated the helicopter “was participating in fighting a forest fire on Samos”, a mountainous island within the Aegean Sea.

The coastguard stated three of its patrol vessels and two different boats had been concerned within the rescue operation.

The fireplace began round 2 pm (1100 GMT), prompting authorities to dispatch three helicopters and 5 planes in addition to some 50 firefighters.

Strong winds hampered their efforts to convey the blaze beneath management, as temperatures hovered across the 30 Celsius mark (86 Fahrenheit) in Greece.
