President Gotabaya Revokes Emergency Rule Ordinance Amid Large-scale Protests


Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa late on Tuesday revoked the emergency rule ordinance that had gone into impact on April 1, whilst the federal government struggled to quell protests amid the nation’s worst financial disaster in many years.

In a gazette notification, Rajapaksa stated the emergency rule ordinance would stand revoked as of midnight on April 5.

Rajapaksa dissolved his cupboard on Monday and sought to type a unity authorities as public unrest surged over his dealing with of the financial disaster that has led to shortages of meals and gasoline and extended energy cuts.
