The Indian ladies desk tennis crew, led by Manika Batra, began its Commonwealth Games title protection in emphatic vogue, outclassing South Africa 3-0 in its opening Group 2 tie right here on Friday.
First on courtroom was the ladies’s doubles duo of Sreeja Akula and Reeth Tennison, who mixed properly to beat the South African pair of Lailaa Edwards and Danisha Patel 11-7 11-7 11-5 handy India the lead.
Then reigning Commonwealth Games champion Batra, who turned the primary Indian desk tennis participant to win a gold within the ladies’s singles within the final version, lived as much as her billing and thrashed Musfique Kalam 11-5 11-3 11-2 within the first singles match.
Akula then got here again and scored a dominating 11-5 11-3 11-6 win over Patel within the second singles to seal the tie for India.
The Indian ladies will tackle Fiji of their second group tie later within the day.
