Jaipur railway station gets Rajasthan's first Eat Right station certificate

The Jaipur Railway Station on Tuesday obtained the ‘Eat Right Station’ certificates from Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). With this certification, it turned the primary such station in Rajasthan and north western railway.

This certification is awarded by FSSAI to these railway stations that set benchmarks in offering protected and healthful meals to passengers both by eating places, meals kiosks, mounted or transferring stalls. The station has been awarded this certificates after an FSSAI-empanelled third-party audit company gave it a score of 5 stars.

The certificates to Jaipur railway station is legitimate for 2 years until July 26, 2024. “Eat Right Station, an FSSAI initiative which was adopted by the Ministry of Railwaysis a station where all the quality standard parameters are complied, in terms of hygiene, training to personnel who are serving the food to passengers and regulatory norms like pollution control.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the Indian Railways is already bearing more than 50 per cent of the cost of travel, on an average, for all passengers, including senior citizens, on account of lower fare structure for passenger services. Apart from this, due to Covid-19, passenger earnings for the last two years is less in comparison to 2019-20.

Measures like disposal of cooking oil from restaurants and other cleanliness parameters are checked as part of this initiative,” mentioned Captain Shashi Kiran, chief public relations officer for north western railway. He mentioned the method for the certification began round six months again.

“It is checked if restaurants and food stalls have nutrition charts put up or not, then the level of cleanliness being maintained in the station premises, especially from a health perspective is checked,” added the officer. As a part of this course of, over 60 distributors on the railway station have been skilled and audited.
